Leave types are policy-driven and accrue on schedule. Balance adjustments happen inside database transactions, so an approval that deducts days can never half-complete — the balance an employee sees is the balance that exists.
Overlap protection before the awkward conversation
Applications are checked for overlapping requests and sufficient balance at submission, and requested days are locked while pending — the classic double-booked-leave problem is prevented, not cleaned up.

Approvals, rejections and cancellations dispatch email notifications to the right people. Unpaid leave flows into the LOP engine so payroll reflects it without a separate step.
